West Kauai Medical Center (WKMC) was formerly known as Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH). It was completed in October 1957 and dedicated to the Veterans of the Korean War. KVMH was built to meet the increasing medical needs for the people of the surrounding communities. Although this hospital still continues to honor the service and sacrifice of all our Veterans, the hospital has unofficially adopted a new name and today it is known as the West Kauai Medical Center (WKMC). Today, WKMC employs approximately 151 employees and has utilization numbers of:
• Average Annual Admissions: 960
• Average Annual Births: 140
• Average Annual ER Visits: 4,600
• Average Annual Patient Days: 11,500

Through the provision of the following patient services:
• Critical Care
• Orthopedic Surgeon on Staff
• Full-time Radiologist
• Radiology, CT Scan, Ultrasound, Mammography
• Full-time radiologist
• High Risk Fetal Ultrasound Consultations with Kapiolani Medical Center
• Cardiac Ultrasound Consultations with Queens Medical Center
• Cardiac Care
• Physical Therapy
• Occupational Therapy
• Inpatient/Outpatient Surgery
• Ophthalmology
• GYN/OB
• General Surgeries

The Kawaiola Medical Office Building (MOB) was completed and dedicated in November of 1996. Kawaiola was the outcome of a collaborated Hospital and Community Strategic Plan for health care for the West Kauai communities. Ten Physicians and one Nurse Practitioner occupy the MOB. Five of the Physicians are WKMC doctors, and the other five are members of various professional groups that serve WKMC. Services presently being provided in the MOB are:

• Hemodialysis (St. Francis)
